BIG DOUG NEEDS A HOME

BIG DOUG IS NOT AN EDWARD FOUNDATION DOG SO PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR HIM VIA OUR APPLICATION. ALL ENQUIRIES TO enquiries@teckelsanimalsanctuaries.co.uk

We feel that due to his background and current behaviours that big Doug would be best suited to a quiet, adult only home with minimal visitors. Experience with bull breeds and/or mouthing would be ideal. Doug can find heavy/ loud traffic quite worrying so it would be great if he could live in a quiet area where he doesn’t have to come across this too often. His previous family had mentioned that he’s a traffic chaser; however we have found this really difficult to work on at our centre due to its position. We have a 50mph road outside that we have to cross to get to a lane where we rarely see cars and if we do they are driving very slowly so it’s a kind of all or nothing situation.

We do also feel that Doug would like to be the only pet in his new home. His previous family mentioned that he had some play friends so we do feel that once settled and in a calm environment, making friends could be resumed. For now we have found Doug to get very frustrated around dogs very quickly and other pets have found him to be too over the top to want to interact with him. This is something we are currently working on but again a new family would have to manage him around other dogs initially so a quiet walking area would be great!

Doug has been able to be left in his previous home and can settle nicely in his kennel when the centre is quiet so we do feel that there is potential for him to be left alone for a couple of hours. We would recommend that he is left with plenty of toys and chews to keep him occupied.

We do feel that Doug is very ‘typically’ bulldog and although does have his individual quirks, does also have all the great aspects of his breed. He’s very treat orientated and loves learning new things. He has absolutely no concept of personal space and adores being up on the sofa for a snooze and cuddle with you. He will happily sit in the most uncomfortable positions just to get that last bit of sunbathing in and has the cutest snore ever! He also adores playing tuggy and is brilliant with his food puzzles.
